The National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT) is a premier autonomous national-level organization promoted by the Ministry of Cooperation for education, training, research, and human resource development in the cooperative sector. Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, NCCT plays a pivotal role in strengthening cooperative institutions across India through professional management of education, capacity building programmes, and sector-specific training initiatives.
The origin of NCCT dates back to 1953, when the Government of India, in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India, constituted a Central Committee for Cooperative Training to organize and guide training for personnel working in cooperative institutions. In 1976, the National Council for Cooperative Training formally replaced the earlier Committee for Cooperative Training (CCT), and in 2018 it became an autonomous society under the Ministry of Cooperation.
NCCT is entrusted with the responsibility of organizing, directing, monitoring, and evaluating cooperative training arrangements throughout the country. Its primary objective is to conduct need-based and professionally designed training programmes for employees, managers, board members, and stakeholders associated with cooperatives in sectors such as agriculture, dairy, banking, credit, marketing, rural development, fisheries, women cooperatives, and agri-business management.
The Council has developed an extensive nationwide training infrastructure comprising:
• Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) at the national level,
• Five Regional Institutes of Cooperative Management (RICMs) located at Patna, Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Kalyani and Gandhinagar.
• Fourteen Institutes of Cooperative Management (ICMs) across different states of India.
In addition, NCCT extends academic and technical support to more than 100 Junior Cooperative Training Centres operating in various states. Through this network, the Council conducts management development programmes, diploma courses, postgraduate programmes, seminars, workshops, consultancy assignments, and research studies related to the cooperative movement and rural economy.
NCCT also collaborates with several national and international organizations such as NABARD, National Dairy Development Board, AMUL, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, ICA and others International Cooperatives and development agencies for specialized training and research initiatives.
Under the vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation), NCCT continues to contribute significantly towards professionalizing the cooperative sector, promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing managerial competence, and supporting inclusive socio-economic development in India.
